What happens on a booked 30-minute call with a licensed adviser
Written by the SortMyCover editorial team. Updated 2 October 2026.
A SortMyCover call is a short chat with an authorised financial services provider, called a licensed adviser. It is free and there is no obligation. Here is what usually happens.
Before the call
The call is booked for a time that suits the person. It does not start straight away. It can be by video, WhatsApp or phone. The adviser shares their name and licence details first, so the person can check them.
What the adviser asks
- Who depends on the person's income
- What the bond and other debts look like
- What cover the person already has, including cover through work
- What the person can comfortably budget each month
The adviser asks these questions to understand the family. There are no trick questions.
What the adviser explains
The adviser explains the options in plain words and answers questions. They also explain how they are paid.
What the adviser does not do
- No pressure to decide on the call
- No obligation to buy anything
- No need to share bank card details on the call
The person can say no, or ask for time to think.
