What should I bring to my adviser call?

Little is required. A quiet spot, a working phone or device, and your questions are enough. Documents such as a payslip, benefits statement or policy schedule are optional, and only if you have them. Do not send ID numbers, bank details or health details by message. This is information, not advice.
You can join the call with nothing more than a phone and a few minutes. The list below only covers things that make the call easier. Nothing on it is compulsory.
What is the checklist?
- A quiet spot. The call is about 30 minutes, by video, WhatsApp call or phone. A place where you can hear and be heard helps.
- A working phone or device with a connection, for the channel you chose when you booked.
- Your latest payslip or benefits statement, if you have one. It shows what your employer's scheme calls its benefits.
- Existing policy schedules, if you have them. A schedule is the page of a policy that lists its details.
- Names of the people you want to ask about, such as a partner, children or relatives you support.
- Your questions. Write them down so you do not forget them.
Do I have to send documents before the call?
No. You do not have to send ID or any other document in advance. If you have a document to hand, you can have it open during the call. The adviser may tell you what they would like to see.
What should I not send?
Do not send ID numbers, bank details or health details by message. That includes WhatsApp, SMS and email. If an adviser asks for any of these, ask them how they will collect and store them safely.
SortMyCover does not ask for your ID number or bank details. If a message claims to be from SortMyCover and asks for them, do not reply. Contact hello@sortmycover.co.za instead.
What questions could I write down?
Some ideas, if they are useful to you:
- What is your FSP number, and which products are you authorised to advise on?
- How are you paid?
- What happens to my details after the call?
- What happens next, and who contacts whom?
You can also bring questions about your own situation. They are for the adviser, not for SortMyCover. SortMyCover does not give advice and does not say what any cover should be.
How can I get ready on the day?
Set aside the full 30 minutes at a time when you will not be interrupted. For a video call, try the camera and sound a few minutes before the start. A WhatsApp call uses your mobile data or Wi-Fi, so check your connection first.
Should I check the adviser before the call?
You can. The adviser's name and FSP number are given to you in the first message, and again at the start of the call. How to check an adviser is a short set of steps.
What if I do not have any documents?
Documents are optional. Not everyone has a benefits statement to hand, and some people have never seen one. How to read your payslip's cover line explains where to look. What you bring is your choice. It is also fine to ask for more time before you decide anything. What happens on a 30-minute call describes the call.
